The St Michael’s Way

The St Michael’s Way brings together the routines, behaviours and expectations that help our school remain a calm, respectful and positive place to learn.

We explicitly teach children what these behaviours look like and revisit them regularly throughout the year. This helps ensure that expectations are clear, consistent and understood by all pupils.

At the heart of The St Michael’s Way are our three expectations: Be Ready. Be Respectful. Be Responsible.

Voice Levels

Children are explicitly taught to use an appropriate voice level for different activities and environments. Our Voice Levels help children understand when they should work silently, whisper, talk with a partner or use a stronger voice.

WOW Walking

When moving around our school, children demonstrate WOW Walking. This helps everyone move around the building calmly, safely and respectfully.

Marvellous Manners

We encourage children to demonstrate Marvellous Manners throughout the school day. This includes showing courtesy, patience and respect when speaking to children and adults.

Making the ‘A’ Choice

We teach children to make the ‘A’ Choice – Always tell an Adult if you are struggling. This might be because they are having difficulty with another pupil, are feeling worried or upset, or are finding it difficult to manage their own behaviour. We want every child to know that there is always an adult available to listen and help.

Living the St Michael’s Way

The St Michael’s Way is not simply a set of posters or rules. It is the way we teach children to behave, learn and live well together.

Adults model these expectations consistently and recognise children when they demonstrate positive attitudes, respectful relationships and our school values.
