Every Voice Matters

At St Michael’s CE Primary School, we believe in empowering our pupils to take an active role in their education and in the life of our school. Pupil leadership is an important part of our school culture because we want every child to understand that their voice matters, their ideas are valued and they have the capacity to make a positive difference.

Our pupil leadership opportunities give children meaningful ways to contribute to school life, represent the views of others and play an active part in making St Michael’s the best it can be. Through their leadership roles, pupils are encouraged to share ideas, listen to others, take responsibility and work alongside their peers and adults to contribute to the continued improvement of our school.

We are particularly proud that pupil leadership at St Michael’s is inclusive and representative of our diverse school community. We believe that leadership opportunities should be accessible to all and that every child has something valuable to contribute. We actively seek to ensure that pupils from different backgrounds, with different experiences and with a range of needs are able to participate, including pupils with SEND, pupils eligible for Pupil Premium and pupils who speak English as an additional language. We monitor participation so that we can identify and remove potential barriers and ensure that a wide range of pupil voices are heard.

For us, pupil leadership is about much more than holding a position or wearing a badge. We want our pupils to experience genuine responsibility and meaningful participation. Children are encouraged to express their views confidently, listen respectfully to the perspectives of others and understand that their contributions can influence decisions and bring about positive change. In doing so, they develop important knowledge, skills and personal qualities including confidence, independence, communication, collaboration, empathy and responsibility.

Pupil leadership also provides an important opportunity for our children to live out our school values of Courage, Community and Trust. Pupils show courage when they share their ideas and stand up for what they believe will make a positive difference; they strengthen our community by listening to and representing others; and they demonstrate trust by accepting responsibility and working together for the good of our school.

Ultimately, we want our children to understand that leadership is about service, responsibility and making a difference to others. By providing a wide range of opportunities for pupils to participate, contribute and lead, we help our children to flourish as confident, compassionate and responsible individuals who know that they have both a voice and a valuable part to play in their school community.

School Leadership Team

Our School Leadership Team reflects our senior leadership team structure, comprising of one Head Pupil, two Deputy Head Pupils, and two Assistant Head Pupils. We take pride in being leaders and role models in our school community. We demonstrate excellent behaviour and uphold our school values, inspiring our peers to do the same. We lead special events, welcome visitors, engage with the school council to address student concerns, check in on younger pupils, and report to the Senior Leadership Team.

School Council

We are the School Council, dedicated to ensuring every child has a voice in our school. Our main goal is to create a safe, happy, and fair environment where everyone can thrive. We want to hear your ideas, solve problems together, and improve our school!

Worship Leaders

As Worship Leaders, we lead Collective Worship and create quiet prayer spaces. We develop resources, share our love for worship, and collaborate to enhance the experience. Our goal is to ensure everyone feels connected and can reflect on important matters through prayer.

Team Captains

As Team Captains and Deputy Team Captains, we collect and count team points, organise fun competitions, and contribute to assemblies. We listen to our team members’ ideas and suggest improvements. This special role allows us to support our peers and enhance our school community for everyone.

Eco Warriors

As Eco Warriors, we work together to protect our school and community. We meet regularly to discuss saving water, reducing waste, and keeping our school clean. We aim to inspire everyone to make a difference together and protect our planet.

Peer Mediators

As Peer Mediators, we help create a positive school environment by resolving conflicts among classmates. We facilitate discussions to ensure everyone feels heard and can find common ground. We encourage friendships and collaboration in our school community.
