Foreign Languages
At St Michael’s CE Primary School, our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum gives children the opportunity to learn French while developing confidence, curiosity and an appreciation of different cultures. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum delivered in Key Stage 2, pupils build their knowledge of French phonics, vocabulary and grammar, enabling them to communicate through speaking, listening, reading and writing with increasing accuracy and independence. Children regularly revisit and apply their learning through meaningful and engaging activities, helping them to develop fluency and confidence over time. Alongside language skills, pupils explore French culture, traditions and life in French-speaking countries, fostering respect, empathy and a deeper understanding of the wider world. Our curriculum encourages children to become resilient, enthusiastic language learners who are prepared for future language study and equipped to thrive in an increasingly diverse and connected global community.
