Behaviour Curriculum
At St Michael’s, we believe that positive behaviour should be taught, modelled, practised and reinforced, just like any other area of learning. Our whole-school behaviour curriculum, The St Michael’s Way, makes our expectations clear and consistent for all pupils from Nursery to Year 6.
The curriculum is built around our three school rules: Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. Through short weekly behaviour lessons, pupils are explicitly taught the routines, habits and social behaviours that help to create a calm, safe and respectful school environment. These include WOW Walking, STAR Behaviour, Marvellous Manners, Voice Levels, the ‘A’ Choice, lunchtime expectations and positive behaviour at playtimes.
Each focus is introduced through a dedicated weekly lesson and then revisited throughout the week in classrooms, around school, at lunchtimes and during Collective Worship. Staff model the expected behaviours, give pupils opportunities to practise them and use consistent language to reinforce expectations. Behaviour Curriculum Planning
The curriculum is revisited across the year so that pupils build secure routines and positive habits over time. It also supports pupils to understand why particular behaviours matter — for example, keeping themselves and others safe, showing respect, listening carefully, resolving difficulties appropriately and making positive choices. Behaviour Curriculum Planning
Our approach is consistent across the school, while reasonable adaptations are made where needed to support pupils with additional needs. The behaviour curriculum works alongside our Positive Relationships and Behaviour Policy and our wider pastoral and SEND support.
Please see our Behaviour Curriculum below for further information about the weekly teaching sequence and how The St Michael’s Way is implemented across the school.
