History

At St Michael’s CE Primary School, our History curriculum inspires children to develop a curiosity about the past and an understanding of how it has shaped the world we live in today. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils explore significant individuals, civilisations, events and periods from both local, British and world history, including the history of Birmingham and the wider community. Children learn to think and work like historians by investigating sources, asking thoughtful questions, examining evidence and considering different interpretations of the past. Through the development of chronological understanding, historical enquiry skills and critical thinking, pupils make meaningful connections between people, events and societies across time. Educational visits, workshops and engaging learning experiences bring history to life, helping children to appreciate diversity, understand different perspectives and develop a strong sense of identity and belonging. By the end of primary school, pupils are confident, informed and reflective learners who value their heritage and understand the importance of learning from the past to shape the future.
